Who would of though that a
conversation over the fence about a
young person not knowing the
difference between a apple and a
tomato would lead to one of the most
spectacular things in Abbey Hulton.
On July 12th 2008, the Betty Rushton
Community Garden was officially opened.
Since the garden has been opened it has
been a popular place for both young and old
to work together as a community. School
children/teachers joined volunteers in learning
how to grow and harvest fruit and vegetables.
This large garden has raised beds accessible
for people with disabilities, it has greenhouses
and a poly tunnel. The gates are open most
days for residents to walk around. There is
also an on site classroom available for hire
whether they be social or specific events.
